What is colonic hydrotherapy?
Roughly translated colonic hydrotherapy means “intestine
water therapy”. Colonics, colonic treatment and high enemas are all
different names for colonic hydrotherapy instruments, which use
filtered, temperature controlled water to clean our insides.
What is the large intestine?
The large intestine is the last 1-1.5 metres of the
alimentary canal. It is a hollow tube made out of a structure of
muscles, which move digested food forward using peristaltic movements.
Is it embarrassing to get a colonic irrigation?
No. During the entire treatment you will be covered by a
towel and a blanket, and the practitioner will never see you undressed.
The course of the treatment is entirely on your own terms. After
thorough advice, you will insert the tube yourself in your own private
room. There are no unpleasant odours and no possibility of “going wide
of the mark”.
Does it hurt?
It rarely hurts. During the treatment the muscles in the
large intestine will contract to repel water and faecal matter. The
contraction can feel like stomach gas or even like a slight stomach
ache, like when you have to go to the toilet. The main part of the
treatment is a gentle and relaxing experience. After the treatment you
will feel much cleaner and lighter.
Is one treatment enough?
Almost never. Most people have a minimum of four kilos of
hardened faecal matter in their intestine. This faecal matter is often
very hard and can be hiding in the small “pockets” on the sides of the
intestine. It often requires help to clean it out. The first treatment
will remove some, the second treatment will remove some more, but it is
entirely up to you how many treatments you wish to have. The intestine
is not cleaned out in one treatment hence it will be beneficial for most
people to have several treatments.
What is the best treatment package?
To get the most out of colonic hydrotherapy we recommend
a treatment package of 12 treatments: two the first week, two the next
week and then one every week for the following 8 weeks.
The human body is an extremely advanced “piece of machinery”. When the
intestine have been rinsed, the body starts to draw waste products out
of the tissue, which is directed trough the blood back to the liver and
then back to the intestine. The second colonic hydrotherapy treatment is
therefore highly effective, if the remaining waste products are to be
cleansed out instead of being reabsorbed in the system. It is the same
reasoning behind the two treatments in the following week. After the
first two weeks, one treatment a week is enough.
Does colonic irrigation remove all bacteria –the bad as
well as the good ones?
No. If there are too many toxins in the intestine, the
condition in the intestine is often worsened. The healthy bacteria can
easily live in an acidic environment, whereas the harmful bacteria can
only live in an alkaline environment. Most people have –typically due to
bad eating habits, lack of exercise and bad digestion- an alkaline
intestine. The advantage of a colonic irrigation is mainly that the
environment in the intestine changes from alkaline to acidic. If the
conditions in the intestine change, the healthy bacteria such as
bifidophilus and acidophilus can easily survive and multiply. The first
step towards a healthy colonic environment is to remove toxins, waste
products and gas in the intestine.
What advantages does colonic irrigation have?
Colonic hydrotherapy is not curative by itself, but it
can be a needed help for the body in its attempt to get rid of intestine
related nuisances. By strengthening the intestine’s muscles and
movements the body is helped back into functioning at its best. The
wellbeing you feel after a treatment is mainly because you get rid of
toxins and waste products, which would otherwise lead to possibly
illness. The intestine is also working more effectively afterwards and
you can therefore easier absorb the necessary nutrients. This relieves
other organs and the lymphatic system.
Colonic irrigation can also rise your energy level, give you cleaner and
healthier skin, help you control rashes and allergies, and get rid of
headache, tiredness, uneasiness, small depressions and constipation.
Why is colonic irrigation better than laxatives/enemas? Enemas are fine, if you only want to clean the lower part of the intestine. If you on the other hand prefer a complete clean-out, colonic hydrotherapy is the best method. Colonic hydrotherapy is an effective way to clean the intestine for waste products. It happens by a gentle, controlled flow of water. Laxatives can leave leftovers of toxins and waste products on the intestinal walls, which can cause irritation for your body. Laxatives can also be addictive, which means that after a while it can become difficult or totally impossible to use the toilet in the normal way.
Do you get dependent on colonic irrigations?
No. Colonic irrigation strengthens the intestine’s
natural muscles. Colonic hydrotherapy is a kind of “intestine work-out”.
Your intestinal muscles work against the gentle pressure of water during
the treatment. It can be compared to a muscle in the arm, which is built
by the counterpressure that arises when you for example lift weights.
When the intestinal muscles have re-built its natural strength, the
intestine will work better and the tendency to constipation will be
reduced.
Is the treatment safe and hygienic?
At Colonic we only use sterile, disposable, plastic tubes
and a system, which is disinfected and cleaned thoroughly after each
treatment. A colonic irrigation is therefore absolutely hygienic and
there is no risk of infections happening. Each room has its own toilet
facilities, which is also disinfected and cleaned.
Why does my doctor not know about colonic irrigations? Most
doctors are specialists in their own specific area of medicine, and
therefore they rarely treat the “entire” patient. The medical science
also has a tendency to treat the symptoms rather than prevent them. Most
doctors before the 1920’s actually had a colonic hydrotherapy system in
their practise, but time by time it was exchanged for more medical
instruments.
The interest for natural and holistic treatments methods are presently
rising. Doctors have also become more aware of the advantages of
treating the illness instead of just the symptoms.
What if I have my period?
You can easily have a colonic irrigation done even though
you have your period. The treatment will properly reduce your regular
period pains.
How can I clean my large intestine?
The best way to clean your intestine is by combining a
healthy diet, exercise and colonic hydrotherapy. Colonic irrigation is a
comfortable treatment that happens by a gentle, controlled flow of
water. The water is led in through a sterile, disposable tube. The water
goes in and the waste products come out.
The intestine is a reflex organ, which means that it has electrical
connections to other parts and systems within the body. When the waste
products have accumulated over a certain amount of time it is broken
down and it becomes toxic. The body reacts by slowing other functions
down. This can lead to constipation and lazy intestinal movements, which
will influence other systems within the body.
Is the level of body fluids affected?
The body contains about 70% water. By using a method that
is completely water based, the body gets the opportunity to absorb as
much water as necessary. When the cells are supplied water, the cells’
function is optimized and the body gets rid of the waste products, which
have been “hiding” in other places of the body.
Is the intestine the only part of my body which contain
waste products?
No. Waste products are everywhere in your body. When the
body does not get rid of them, they are stored in the tissue. They are
mainly stored in fat cells, joints, muscles, arteries, the liver and
other organs.
What can I expect from colonic hydrotherapy?
Colonic hydrotherapy is a treatment you can use to get
rid of accumulated waste products. When you cleanse out and improve the
function of your large intestine, the whole body will be working better.
The main advantages of getting a detoxification is that the intestine works properly when the waste
products are no longer present.
What are the typical signs that the large intestine is
not working as it should?
The symptoms can be everything from; constipation, coated
tongue, bad breath, yellowish pale skin, darkness underneath the eyes,
abnormal body odour, cold hands and feet, feeling tense, tiredness,
allergies, indigestion, period problems, swollen legs, asthma, back
pain, lack of memory and concentration.
What guarantee do I have for quality?
Colonic is a member of the international colonic
hydrotherapy association: “International Association for Colonic
Hydrotherapy” (I-ACT). Furthermore the methods we use at Colonic have
been tested and approved by the American health authorities, FDA (Food
and Drug Administration).
